A wastewater treatment facility that serves approximately 1.6 million residents undergoing an estimated $1.7B capital expansion to increase water treatment capabilities due to stricter regulations and increased population demand. To manage the costs of the expansion while driving reliability and maintainability, the facility needed a long-term, cost effective way to maintain critical assets and ensure the lowest total cost of ownership. By applying Reliability Centered Design (RCD) and Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) principles from front-end engineering design all the way through commissioning, the facility now has a risk-based reliability strategy built into its design and daily operations and maintenance programs. This optimized program is focused on sustaining system performance and compliance at the lowest cost without impacting asset lifecycle costs and will deliver an estimated $100MM in cost savings over the life of the facility. In this presentation, Ben Dutro will discuss how this facility was able to achieve design improvements, optimized costs, and increased reliability and safety through RCD and RCM. Attendees will walk away with a better understanding of how they can leverage RCD and RCM to improve design, optimize capital and operational expenditures, and streamline operations and maintenance at their facilities.
